Useful information

Description

Founded in the 14C, burnt down and rebuilt countless times, this Buddhist temple is the biggest of the region. Once past the main door (San-mon), you will find yourself in the imposing main building (Hon-do, 1885), the Taishi-do pavilion (1918) devoted to Emperor Shotoku Taishi, and the Tresury house (Hômotsuden). All these edifices, built out of Japanese elm, showcase decorative sculpture that has become the hallmark of Inami's craft industry, which initially developed to restore the temple.
