Founded in 1897, the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum occupying a lavish 63-room mansion on Upper East Side explores design across the continents, cultures and eras. The museum reopened in 2015 with an enlarged exhibition space and an innovative concept where visitors, armed with an interactive pen, are given the opportunity to become designers themselves.
