After passing Lake Chuzenji, the scenic road continues northwards, crosses the Senjogahara Plateau and, at an altitude of 1 500m, reaches Yumoto Onsen and the small Lake Yunoko (literally "origin of hot water"). It takes 1hr to cover the lake's 2.8km circumference, a feast for the eyes: surrounding high mountains, reflections of the forest on the water's surface, traditional boats, numerous fly fishermen on the lookout for rainbow trout... The icy water of the Shirane torrent flows into the lake to the north and escapes through the spectacular Yudaki Waterfall to the south.
