This square is dominated by the castle and church and contains two 18C mansions - Hôtel Lebreton des Grapillières (now the Hôtel du Général d'Elbée) and Hôtel Jacobsen, named after a Dutch family of salt traders. This is where the Vendée General d'Elbée was shot, sitting in an armchair.
