Description

Built by CR Cockerell in a very free neo-Grecian style (1845), the Ashmolean had a new building designed by architect Rick Mather added in 2009, doubling the exhibition space. Nowadays, the Ashmolean is a university museum of art and archaeology, housing rich and varied collections encompassing the cultures of the world over a period spanning the time from Antiquity to the present day.
