Useful information

Description

The original Alma bridge was built in stone. Its name recalls French and English victories against the Russians at Alma, in 1854, during the Crimean War. Too narrow for traffic, it was replaced by a metal bridge with a single pier in 1974. The Zouave, a massive statue by sculptor Georges Diebolt, is an unofficial water level gauge for the spates of the Seine - in 1910 the water nearly drowned him, when it reached his shoulders.
