This museum contains one of the world's largest private collections of European and Asian art, painstakingly amassed by the industrialist Norton Simon (1907-1993). Large galleries display an extensive panorama of European art from the 14C-20C, including works by Gauguin, Pissarro, Picasso, Matisse, Modigliani, Klee and Kandinsky. In the basement, the remarkable collection of Asian art includes superb Buddhist and Hindu sculptures from India and South-East Asia.
