Since 1919 Goritsky, one of the four monasteries of Pereslavl-Zalesski, has housed a museum of art and history largely devoted to icons and paintings. The monastery, whose buildings date mainly from the 17C and 18C, is located on a charming spot on a verdant hilltop above Lake Pleshcheyev, and boasts treasures from Dormition Cathedral, in particular a beautiful iconostasis sculpted by Iakob Jukovski.
