Useful information

Description

Balhousie Castle houses the headquarters and a museum devoted to this regiment, founded in the 18C. The companies were called The Black Watch because of the 'Watch' they kept on the Highlands and the dark colours of their tartan which contrasted sharply with the red uniforms of the Government troops. The Black Watch became a regiment in 1739 and is still in the service of the Crown.
