Useful information

Description

The very popular Wat Phnom, or "Hill Temple ", is said to have been built to house the four statues of the Buddha discovered by a rich widow called Daun Penh on the banks of the Mekong. A stupa contains the ashes of King Ponhea Yat, who moved his court to Phnom Penh (formerly Chaktomuk) in 1432. With its manicured, shaded lawns, this man-made hill, 27m/88ft high, serves as the symbol of the capital and marks the country's 0 mile marker.
