The Elizabethan House at no 32 New Street and its neighbour were built in the late 16C as part of a development for merchants and sea captains prosperous from trade and booty. The timber-framed and limestone houses are distinguished by their windows, extending the full width of the ground and first floors, exposed beams, large fireplaces and stout 16-17C carved oak furniture.
