Useful information

Description

At the southernmost tip of Southsea stands this castle, built by Henry VIII in 1544-1545 as part of the chain of forts protecting the ports along the south and east coast. The central keep, surrounded by a dry moat, is mainly Tudor. Inside, an exhibition traces the expansion of Portsmouth's fortifications, the reign of Henry VIII and the civil war.
