Useful information

Description

One of the oldest synagogues (1535) in the Jewish town stands on even older foundations. Digs carried out in the 1970s unearthed vestiges of wells and ritual baths. Extensively modified in the mid-19C, the building is now open to the public, and is dedicated to the 77 297 Bohemian and Moravian Jews who died in the Holocaust. It is one of the most poignant memorial sites in the name of the Jews of Europe.
