Useful information

Description

St George's Basilica is the most beautiful Romanesque monument still standing in the Czech Republic. Dedicated to St Ludmilla in 925, rebuilt after 1142 with its white twin towers, it has the traditional shape of Romanesque basilicas: a high, narrow nave leading to a choir stall and a semi-circular apse. Here, they are preceded by an elegant staircase added during the Baroque period. Under the altar, the crypt is moving in its simplicity, with plain columns topped with square capitals.
