Despite a tumultuous history that led the local population to use the site as a quarry, Rakvere Castle still stands proud, all the more so if the corrugated iron structures can be imagined away. These house various activities for younger visitors: a candlemaking workshop, learning to write with a quill, watching artisans at work, and a visit to the torture chambers in the sheds.
