Useful information

Description

This modern building designed by Richard Meier compliments the architecture of the Ara Pacis Augustæ perfectly. This altar complex was built by the Senate and inaugurated in 9C BC, in honour of Augustus for restoring peace in the Roman world after 20 years of civil war. It is composed of an altar with a marble surrounding wall bearing low reliefs. The Ara Pacis also hosts contemporary art exhibitions.
