Useful information

Description

These catacombs are full of paintings and inscriptions which, whether naïve or elaborate in style, are always very moving. Originally a private hypogeum (underground burial site) beneath the villa of the noble Acilius family of Priscilla, the site was later extended by Christians who dug more galleries to bury their dead. Two levels of galleries were created around the hypogeum during the 3C.
