Useful information

Description

Conque Bay's cliff is the site of Alderney's best-preserved funerary chamber, the Roc à l'Épine: the heavy flat stone rests on two supports. In the 19C, many megalithic monuments were lost, when used to strengthen fortifications. A winding path leads down through broom and heather to the sea, then a track leads to Fort Clonque (1855), now holiday apartments. The ruins of Fort Tourgis may be seen on the far side of the bay.
