Once a shopping street, rue du Mazel is lined by houses with arcades or shop openings, half-timbered upper storeys and beautiful doorways. At the corner of rue St Cyr, the birthplace (15C) of Baron of the Empire, General Jean-Jacques Ambert (1765-1851) has a Renaissance door and two turrets with slate roofs.
