Useful information

Description

Built in 1738, this fine town house was, in the late 18C, the seat of the Charente-Inférieure prefecture, before becoming a museum in 1920. It bears the name of a passionate collector, Abel Mestreau (1854-1939). Over three floors, in the billard tables and pianos turned into display cases, there are rows of watches, woodcuts, ceramics, weapons, perlés (embroidery), headdresses. Look out for the reconstruction of a Charente interior and the shop signs from the 19C.
