Description

Peabody Essex Museum is home to paintings, sculptures, decorative arts, drawings, textiles and architectural objects relating to the history of the region, with an emphasis on seafaring and international trade. The department of Maritime Art includes a fascinating collection of 19C carved ships' figureheads, while the Asian Export Art section houses collections of 19C and 20C porcelain, silverware, fabrics and precious metals. The museum also hosts interesting temporary exhibitions.
