Description

With its wide opening onto the Neva, it commands a superb view of Vasilievsky Island. It became famous as the site of the revolutionary uprising of the Decembrists, whose name it now bears. On 14 December 1825, a revolt by liberal officers and aristocrats was put down by the artillery.
