This ostentatiously lavish home is on a par with its illustrious owner, Menshikov, a friend of the tsar, top army general and first governor of St. Petersburg, who received foreign ambassadors here. It is now part of the Hermitage and houses a fine collection of furniture and objects that bear witness to the refined tastes of Russian aristocrats in the early 18C.
