St. Isaac's Square, dominated by the cathedral of the same name, is surrounded by buildings from a variety of periods and of different architectural styles. Note Miatlev House, at N° 9, the oldest house on the square, where Denis Diderot stayed, and Marie's Palace, on the south side, now St. Petersburg's city hall. Hotel Astoria and its wing occupy the east side of the square.
