Seat of the Duma from 1906 to 1917, the Tauride Palace now houses the Inter-parliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States. Its past is a bit more romantic, Catherine II having built it for her lover, Grigori Potemkin, who held lavish parties here. If you visit St. Petersburg in winter, you can go cross-country skiing on trails in the charming Tauride Gardens.
