Description

It is on a height to the north-east of the city and was built in 1322 by Castruccio Castracani, the condottiere of Lucca. It has deep moats and massive curtain walls and is a curious example of military architecture. From the keep there is a magnificent panoramic view over the town and the Apennine foothills.
