A stronghold (11C), a Plantagenet residence (12C), a fortress (13C) and then a "lover's castel" in the 15C, this castle has retained its 14C fortified allure, tempered with a graceful skyline, bristling with steep, cone-shaped rooftops and the richly carved balustrades of the windows. The terrace, the castle's courtyard, embraces a splendid panorama over the town. Don't miss the Museum of Decorative Arts and the section devoted to Horses in the abbey church.
