Lake Tempe is a surprise! When drought put paid to its shallow waters, it ended up looking like a broad bowl carpeted with greenery, overrun by pedestrians and carts. Conversely, lakeside homes can be flooded by the waters, despite their being perched on piles. In the rainy season (November to March), when the lake is at its highest level, you have to get around by boat: then you get to see houses and floating fields, surprising palm groves... Other-worldly!
