Description

The largest castle in the Algarve was built during the Moorish occupation. Digs carried out within the site have unearthed an impressive cistern-well and a residence dating from the Almohad period. The path round the battlements has many viewpoints over the town and the irrigated valley of the Arade, the Serra de Monchique.
