Useful information

Description

Soulac was the disembarkation point for St James' pilgrims from the British Isles. Its basilica is a listed UNESCO site on the Way of St James. This 10C Benedictine edifice gradually became buried beneath sand, until it was unearthed and restored in the late 19C. The windowless central nave and the equally high collaterals are reminiscent of Romanesque architecture in the Poitou. Inside, historiated capitals and a polychrome statue of Notre-Dame-de-la-Fin-des-Terres are eye catching.
