A Frenchified version of the Norman salse marais ("salt marsh"), the name Samarès is a reminder that salt used to secure a large share of the resident lord's revenue. Built in the 10C, this manor was extensively remodelled in the 18C. Don't miss the farmhouse converted into the Rural Life Museum, the crafts centre, the lake and the gardens - including the Japanese garden and the botanical garden.
