Description

The library of Saint-Dié-des-Vosges possesses 230,000 works, including 600 manuscripts and 140 early printed books. See the Cosmographiae Introductio, printed at Saint-Dié en 1507 by the Vosges Gymnasium, one of the oldest print works in the world and preserved in the treasury room. This group of scholars were the first to name the continent "discovered" by Christopher Columbus. It maps out the American continent, named by Christopher Columbus in honour of famed Florentine explorer and navigator Amerigo Vespucci.
