Description

The Ballon d'Alsace, at 1,247m, is the highest peak of the Southern Vosges' range. A footpath leads to the top and a superb panorama over the Alsace plains and Black Forest, and even as far the Mont Blanc on a clear day. A road dating back to Louis XV allows you to pass the Col du Ballon. On the way, you will see lovely fir and birch forests, delightful undergrowth, cool ravines, and on the heights, immense meadows, dotted with alpine flowers.
