Useful information

Description

You will see a beautiful square bell tower decorated with Lombard arches and a cloister endowed with elegant Roman sculptures. The setting was so peaceful, that Vincent Van Gogh had himself sectioned here after his Arles crisis, between May 3 1889 and May 16 1890. It was a period in which his creativity flourished and the artist, fascinated by the light and beauty of St Rémy's landscapes, produced over 150 canvases and drawings over the year. A small museum charts the history of his stay here and of the institution itself.
