Built for Joseph Choate (1832-1917), US ambassador to England, this edifice resembles a Norman-style mansion on one side and a simpler American cottage on the other (1886, Stanford White). The 44-room house served as the summer home of the Choate family. The well-preserved rooms are furnished with period pieces. The vast grounds and Chinese garden can be visited freely.
