Useful information

Description

The vast ruins of Dunnottar stand on a headland that is virtually inaccessible, three sides of which are sheer rock. This spectacular site, even more so during bad weather, served as a setting for Franco Zeffirelli's Hamlet. Legend has it that Saint Ninian founded a Christian community here in the 5C, which is why Sir William Keith was excommunicated for having built a castle on the same spot in the 14C.
