Description

The 13C Strängnäs cathedral is worth a visit for several reasons: the elegant wall paintings in Our Lady's Chapel; the 17C stucco decoration in the Gyllenhjelm Chapel; the starred vault above the choir; the delicate wrought-iron grille enclosing Charles IX's funeral monument (1597); the 14C baptismal fonts; and, above all, the superb altarpiece (1490), a masterpiece from the Brussels School, behind the main altar.
