Description

This late-medieval building with an 18C façade was home to the artist Thomas Gainsborough (1727-1788), and contains many mementoes of him including works executed between 1740 and 1750 (in the small drawing room on the ground floor), his first acclaimed portrait (cut in two, of a boy and a girl), and his Portrait of Abel Moysey (in the Aubrey Herbert room), one of his greatest works (painted in the late 1760s).
