This was once the capital of the greatest Hindu kingdom in Indonesia, the Majapahit kingdom (1294-1527). Given the fragility of the construction materials (brick and wood), the vestiges now only amount to a few isolated elements, but the inspiring museum will help you piece together this prestigious site in your mind (hire a becak as the remains are dispersed): red-brick pool with gargoyles and Troloyo Cemetery, which houses the oldest Muslim tombs found (1368-1475)...
