Tongdo-sa, the largest temple of the country known as that of the "salvation of the world", is reached by a path that runs alongside a river and a lovey pine forest. The complex was founded in 646 to house the relics of the historical Buddha himself, brought back from China by the monk Jajang. The legendary sarira are so numerous, they have led to a total absence of Buddha statues in the main hall, which is almost unique among Korean Buddhist temples. Interesting museum.
