In the mid-18C, over 2 000 Nisga'a perished when the Tseax Cone volcano erupted. An impressive lava field now extends over an area of 39km2, offset against a backdrop of snowy peaks. This uninhabitable land has been transformed into a park, Nisga'a Memorial Lava Bed Provincial Park, with a dual mission to protect the traces of a major geological happening and honour the memory of Nisga'a ancestors.
