Created during the Ice Age, the green valley of the Skeena River is reputed for its grandiose landscapes and its famous rainbow trout. The 565km-long river flows from the Skeena Mountains to the Hecate Strait via New Hazelton. The valley is home to the rich Tsimshian culture of the Gitxsan ethnic group. Be sure to see the Totem Route, which passes through a few villages still inhabited by Gitxsan, and where you can see impressive rows of late-19C totem poles.
