Like its illustrious model in Constantinople, St Sophia's Church (Agia Sofia) is dedicated to "Divine Wisdom". Recognisable by its ochre walls, the current building (19C) is the product of a long and tumultuous history, which began in the 5C with the construction of a first basilica, parts of which survive today. On this account, it is one of Thessaloniki's UNESCO World Heritage early Christian and Byzantine monuments.
