Description
The French concession was set up here, further to the Treaty of Tianjin that was ratified in 1860. Jiefang Beilu, formerly "rue de Paris", is now the street where all the banks are. At no 29 is the former Cercle Français (1932), at no 34 the former municipal council and at no 77 the former Bank of Indochina. Liberation Bridge (Jiefang Qiao), meanwhile, is a fine example of Eiffel- style metallic architecture.
