Navajo National Monument
Michelin Guide
The Michelin Guide's review
Two of the finest Anasazi archeological sites are tucked away here in the depths of the canyons of the Navajo reserve. The Betatakin ledge houses, home to up to 125 souls, nestle into a huge alcove in a sandstone cliff. Keet Seel site, occupied from as early as 950, was at its apex in the late 13C, date of the remains. It fans out around three streets, which is most unusual for this type of ledge house. A paved trail (30mins return) leaves from the visitor center to a spectacular overlook of Betatakin.
