This square, one of the most popular in Toulouse, was where executions were long carried out. Among those who met their death here was Protestant merchant Jean Calas, a native of Toulouse, accused of killing his son for wanting to convert to Catholicism. The square was totally renovated in the late 1970s and now offers visitors pleasant cafés and restaurants.
