On the southern flank of the Turrialba Volcano lies the largest pre-Columbian site in Costa Rica, founded around 1000 BC. Neither its stone foundations, nor its network of roads, nor its petroglyphs have helped us understand why it was abruptly abandoned around the year 1400.
