The national museum in Ubon Ratchathani provides a superb overview of art in Thailand, from prehistory (copies of wall paintings from Pha Taem national park) to the 20C, via statues illustrating the mix of Thai and Laotian influences. One of the highlights of this remarkable collection is the representation of Ardhanarishvara (9C), the union of Shiva and his consort Uma. A visit to this museum is a must.
