An elegant three-storey castle dominates the town of Uwajima and its port. It is one of Japan's 12 remaining castles to have retained its original structure. It was built in the late 16C by the famous architect Todo Takatora (1556-1630), who also built the castles of Ozu, Kyoto and Edo. The top storey commands a splendid view of the town.
