Useful information

Description

At 96m high, this bell tower dominates Piazza San Marco and is one of Venice's most distinctive landmarks. It is an exact replica of a 16C tower which collapsed in 1902. From the top, which is crowned with an elegant pyramidion, the view stretches from the Giudecca Canal to the Grand Canal, over terraces and rooftops to the lagoon's outlying islands. At the tower's base stands the richly decorated Loggetta Sansoviniana, which is flanked by columns and whose recesses hold statues of Minerva, Apollo, Mercury and Peace.
